The Clock
The August installment of 11 months, 11 Readings—an oracle card inspired poetry series.
Hiding your true face behind ever circling hands that remind us time waits for no one. No matter how many hearts stop, cities crumble, fascists conquer or babies cry, you, time, have to go on and on and on and on into the edges of the infinite, while we mortals merely only borrow you briefly, trying our best to leave little legacies in a universe that often feels too big and too miraculous for any of us to matter to it. Oh keeper of the instant and hour, what staggering power you possess in helping us tell ourselves that this now we have ticking away is precious, and we must do all we can to honor every moment of yours that we are given to witness.
The is the August 2023 installment of the 11 Months, 11 Readings series, which features a new poem each month inspired by an Oreanam Oracle card that is drawn by the author on the first day of each month.
