Happiest of new year's my dears. It's 2025, which means a few big things!
10 Years of Becoming
Firstly, it means that I've been writing on my Elayna Musings blog for an entire decade, having made my first post in January 2015. A whole ten years of my life is there chronicled, a journey I could have never predicted that has led me to places I couldn't have imagined. From London to San Diego, from Orlando to Seattle—I'm more grateful than any words could possibly convey.
On the Road
But the other, arguably more important thing, is that this is to be my Year of the Road. After a lifetime of imagining going on One Roadtrip to Rule Them All, this August, it looks like I'll be on my way. Along with two friends who I consider family, I'll be setting off from Philly to Los Angeles, over the course of five long months.
One of these friends will be "finishing his story" with his fifth, and final, tour across the country, speaking about his journey and how activism can be a profound treatment for depression. Another of these friends will be sparking joy in communities along the way with his passions for podcasting and the healing power of Dungeons & Dragons.
And then there will be me. Going to every school, library, and cafe between here and California that will have me, talking with youth about how they can harness the power of poetry to help build a more inclusive future.
We're in the pre-production phase as we speak for a documentary focused on Jay's journey, and the campaign where you can support our endeavors runs for another couple weeks. We're blessed to already be 22% of the way there, but that means, pardon the pun, we've got a long road ahead yet.
New Book, who dis?
And lastly, I’m delighted to report this year also holds a brand new book of poetry coming from yours truly. This is one I’ve been quietly working on for years, and I am so excited to be sharing more news about that in the next few weeks. Lovers of Philadelphia—this book’s gonna be for you. 😉
